MatTek Life Sciences and World Precision Instruments (WPI) jointly announced today a new distribution agreement that will give customers the ability to purchase MatTek’s new PermaCell High-Throughput Cell Culture Insert Plates and WPI’s compatible customized STX HTS EVOM TEER Electrodes STX HTS EVOM™ Electrode for TEER from either company in a single transaction.

MatTek’s new PermaCell Insert Plates are the optimal platform for 3-dimensional cell culture. The plates are designed for robust cell adhesion and growth in both monolayer and 3D tissue culture and the same membrane type is used in the production of some of MatTek’s 3D human tissues. “We have great success growing our tissues on this membrane type and this high-throughput system is perfect for pharmaceutical screening or academic research using a broad variety of cell types,” said Mitch Klausner, MatTek’s executive vice president. “A common method to test the barrier integrity of in vitro tissues is through TEER measurement, and our partnership with WPI to provide these specially compatible instruments to our PermaCell customers was a natural fit.”

Transepithelial Electrical Rresistance (TEER) measurement is widely accepted as the most reliable and convenient method of evaluating and monitoring the structural integrity of epithelial tissue culture in vitro. WPI custom developed the STX HTS EVOM™ Electrode for TEER for specific compatibility with MatTek’s PermaCell plates and provide a high quality, cost-effective alternative in the absence of automated equipment.
