Understanding the EVOM™ Manual's Main Display Page

WPI’s EVOM™ Manual is the gold standard for delivering stable and repeatable Trans Epithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) measurements. The EVOM™ Manual qualitatively measures cell monolayer health and quantitatively measures cell confluence by determining an increase or a plateau in tissue resistance detected using our innovative EVOM™ technology. The main display window has lots of information. Here’s a quick overview. You can download the infographic for a handy reference.

  • Touch the OK button to short V1-V2. This is used to nullify the galvanic charge in the electrodes when the electrodes are placed in a saline solution for 4–8 hours to remove the charge.
  • Current Well shows the current cell in the plate which is being measured.
  • When the meter is plugged into a power source, the battery icon shows a charging symbol. Otherwise it shows the actual battery level.
  • The Range shows the mode that was chosen on the Setup Page. Options include volts (V), millivolts (mV), ohms (Ω) or kiloohms (KΩ).
  • Press the Store button to record the value and index to the next well. If you press and hold the Store button, the Storage Options menu appears.
  • Press the Preview button to see the Preview Page with a table showing the measurement samples.
  • Press the Setup button to open the Setup page. From there, you can select a plate, set the mode, subtract the control blank value, short the electrodes, set the date and time, calibrate the electrode, neutralize the offset charge on V1-V2 and store the data files.
  • The File name is the name of the data file. This may be defined in the Storage Options menu.
  • Previous Well/Next Well let you navigate through the wells as you take measurements.

A negative resistance number will appear in red text. This can be caused by a faulty electrode in media, or a blank setting that is over the measurement.
