Our reusable biopsy punches are multi-purpose sampling tools designed with a retractable cutting cannula. They are easy to operate, efficient, safe, fast and precise. Our punches consists of a razor sharp stainless steel cutting tip. It is designed to cut, retrieve and store the cored samples from a source materials. The source could be skin, tissue, gels, paper, cloth, leaves, paint chips, films or other thin, soft substrates. The biopsy punches are recommended as a DNA sampling tool and are also ideal for forensic use and laboratory sampling applications. The punches come sterile and are individually wrapped. They were sterilized using ethylene oxide.

Details

The WPI Limited Reuse Biopsy Punch is a reusable, autoclavable stainless steel instrument designed to cut, core, and retrieve precise samples from skin, tissue, gels, agar, and other soft substrates. Featuring a retractable stainless steel cutting blade, it is available in 15 sizes from 0.35 mm to 8 mm and is supplied individually sterile-packed. Unlike fully disposable biopsy punches, it can be cleaned and autoclaved for multiple uses, reducing cost per sample while maintaining consistent cutting performance. Common applications include DNA and tissue sampling, forensic evidence collection, laboratory sample preparation, and microfluidics chip fabrication.

Which Size Do I Need?

Unlike standard disposable punches, these limited reuse biopsy punches may be cleaned between uses and autoclaved according to laboratory protocols, helping reduce operating costs while maintaining sampling precision.

Using the biopsy punches

Cleaning

  1. Clean tip between each sample extraction by coring blank filter paper.
  2. Rinse with ethanol or spray with compressed air to remove dried artifacts.
  3. Rinse mat with ethanol after each sample extraction.

Testimonial

I am using the 0.75 mm WPI punch for punching flow inlets in microfluidics chambers molded of PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane). I have made around 75 hole punches with a single unit into PDMS, the blade and the extractor still work perfectly, though the extractor button sticks slightly. I find the blade to be noticeably sharper than the Harris equivalent, as well as being more ergonomic, in my opinion, with the feel of a pen or pencil in one's hand.  R.P., UNC.
