Our History
EXPANSION OF EVOM™ TECHNOLOGY
Introduced EVOM™ Auto, combining 24- and 96-well TEER measurement in a single platform, along with the EVOM™ Auto GxP Compliance Module to support regulated laboratory environments. Continued the evolution of the platform with EVOM™ Manual, an upgraded successor to EVOM2 and 3, and expanded into next-generation applications with the launch of EVOM™ Chip for organ-on-a-chip (OOC) research.
INTEGRATED FLUIDICS SYSTEMS
Expanded precision microinjection capabilities with the introduction of the MICRO-ePORE™ Pinpoint Cell Penetrator, improving cell penetration and reducing damage in delicate applications. Advanced system integration with the SMARTouch™ Controller, enabling intuitive control across UMP3 and Nanoliter platforms. Broadened delivery solutions with the MICRO-ePUMP, µPUMP, and PV850 pressure microinjectors, and enhanced performance with the Nanoliter™ 2020 Injector for improved resolution and control.
PRECISE MICROINJECTION INNOVATION
Built on the evolution of the Nanoliter platform, including the Nanoliter™ 2010 Injector with SMARTouch™ compatibility for improved control and sealing accuracy. Expanded precision capabilities with the launch of the PUL-1000 Microelectrode/Micropipette Puller, enabling consistent, reproducible pipette fabrication for microinjection and electrophysiology workflows.
EVOM2 & ANALYTICAL ADVANCEMENTS
Introduced EVOM2, setting a new industry standard for TEER measurement and monitoring cell culture confluence in well plates. In parallel, expanded analytical capabilities with the TB4100 4-channel Free Radical Analyzer, enabling multi-channel detection in complex biological systems.
ADVANCING PRECISION MICROINJECTION
Built on the foundation of the PV800 Pressure Microinjector and NanoFil™ syringes, WPI advanced microinjection technology from manual to motorized control. Introduced the UMP2 and later the UMP3 Microinjection Syringe Pumps, improving precision, reliability, and flow control for repeatable microinjection workflows. This progression led to the development of the Nanoliter™ 2000 Injector, delivering enhanced electronic control and accuracy for nanoliter volume injections.
FOUNDATION OF FREE RADICAL ANALYSIS
Introduced the Apollo 4000 Free Radical Analyzer, enabling real-time measurement of reactive species in biological systems. This innovation established the foundation for WPI’s multi-channel free radical analysis platforms.
FOUNDATION OF MICROINJECTION & AUTOMATED TEER SYSTEMS
Developed the first UltraMicroPump, establishing the foundation for WPI’s motorized microinjection platforms. Expanded precision injection capabilities with the introduction of NanoFil™ syringes and the PV800 Pressure Microinjector, enabling accurate and reliable delivery for microinjection and electrophysiology applications.
In parallel, advanced TEER measurement with the introduction of EVOM X, featuring continuous measurement and recording output, along with STX2 and STX100 electrodes for improved performance and flexibility.
Also launched the REMS (Robotic EVOM Measurement System), WPI’s first automated TEER platform, enabling high-throughput, PC-controlled measurements and laying the groundwork for today’s EVOM™ Auto system.
INCEPTION OF EVOM™ LINE
Developed the original EVOM™ (Epithelial Volt/Ohm Meter), introducing a non-destructive, portable method for measuring transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) in cell culture. This innovation established a new standard for barrier function research and laid the foundation for future EVOM™ platforms, including automated and high-throughput TEER systems.
NANOLITER & DAM SERIES
Introduced the first Nanoliter Pump, enabling precise, controlled delivery for oocyte and embryology injections and establishing the foundation of WPI’s fluidics technology.
During this period, WPI also advanced its electrophysiology instrumentation with the release of the DAM series bioamplifiers, delivering high-performance, low-noise signal amplification that was unmatched in the market.
OUR BEGINNING
Founded in the Department of Physiology at the Yale University School of Medicine, where Harry Fein began designing custom amplifiers and stimulators for researchers studying nerve, muscle, and skin physiology. As demand for these specialized systems grew beyond Yale, he began producing instruments for a broader scientific community, laying the foundation for what would become World Precision Instruments.
