Needle holders, also known as needle forceps or needle drivers, are used in suturing during a surgical procedure. The jaws of needle holders have a textured pattern in the tips for gripping suture needles. The size of a pair of needle holders should be matched to the size of the needle you intend to use.
Most of WPI's needle holders are constructed of high quality, surgical grade, stainless steel. WPI's German stainless steel instruments are the premium line. Some of WPI's needle drivers have tungsten carbide inserts in the tip.
Tungsten carbide inserts are more durable than stainless steel, last longer and typically offer a better grip. Tungsten carbide (TC) is harder than stainless steel. Therefore, Tungsten Carbide Needle Holders are more durable and have a longer life than standard stainless steel needle drivers. Look for the gold handles which designate tungsten carbide needle holders with TC inserts in the tips.
