Micromotor drills can be mounted on stereotaxic frames using specialized drill holders. Micromotor drills are used in neuroscientific research for precise and controlled surgical procedures on the brain. A stereotaxic frame is an apparatus used to precisely position and hold the head or brain of a subject, typically an experimental animal like a rat or mouse. Micromotor drills are miniature, high-precision rotary tools used for drilling into the skull during neurosurgical procedures. These drills are designed to provide controlled and fine-scale manipulation to create small openings in the skull for access to the brain. Micromotor drills are integrated into stereotaxic frames through specialized holders. These holders secure the micromotor drill in a fixed position within the frame, ensuring stability and accuracy during the surgery. By mounting a micromotor drill in a stereotaxic frame using these holders, a researcher can align the drill with specific coordinates in the brain. This precision is crucial for targeting specific neural structures for experimentation or manipulation. Stereotaxic frames offer fine adjustments in multiple directions, allowing researchers to precisely position the micromotor drill for accurate targeting. They can even control the depth of the drill, preventing excessive penetration and minimizing the risk of damage to underlying structures. Micromotor drills in stereotaxic frames are widely used in neuroscience research for applications such as lesioning, injection, or electrode implantation into specific brain regions, allowing researchers to investigate brain function, behavior, and neurological disorders. Two drill holders are available. The 505247 28mm ID opening works well with the OmniDrill35 (503598, 503599). The 505248 with the 23mm ID opening works will the Micromotor Hi Speed Drill (505379). The drill is not included with the holder.
