FluoroDish™

Optical quality glass bottom for observing and growing cells in imaging related research

Fluorodish - optical quality glass-bottom dishes

Excellent imaging quality (RI=1.525)

Low sample volume

Low access angle for micropipette

Low toxicity adhesive for embryo research

Fluorodish provides exceptional imaging quality for applications such as high resolution image analysis, microinjection, electrophysical recording of fluorescent-tagged cells, and others that require the use of an inverted microscope. Optical quality glass, polycarbonate structure, low toxicity adhesive, and a variety of sizes and coatings, make Fluorodish the preferred choice for laboratories worldwide.

Why choose WPI’s Fluorodish cover-glass bottom dishes for your classic and fluorescence microscopy applications?
Superior UV transmission (30% transmission at 300 nm, compared to less than 7% in the most popular German glass) and consistent 0.17mm glass thickness (stringent quality control ensures a +/- 0.01mm tolerance) combine to create a dish with excellent optical qualities. Compared with conventional plastic dishes, the flat glass bottom in Fluorodish allows the use of a shorter objective working distance, larger numerical aperture (NA), and a higher magnification (up to 100x). The larger numerical aperture and higher magnification provide superior quality imaging for both classic and fluorescence microscopy.

The higher effective numerical aperture also yields brighter images for fluorescence microscopy and higher resolution in Image Analysis.

Obtain the highest magnification possible using immersion objectives with medium such as water, glycerin, and oil safely with Fluorodish glass-bottom dishes. To optimize heat-exchange, Fluorodish is designed to be flush (flat) with the microscope stage or heating unit, therefore, eliminating the air gap that exists with modified plastic dishes in which a glass cover slip has been inserted.

Low-toxicity adhesive improves survival rate in embryo research Imagine a 100% survival rate of embryos.
Independent laboratory tests show our specially formulated low-toxicity adhesive allows a 96-hour surviving rate of embryos when kept in Fluorodish. Our extensive experience with adhesives lead us to develop an optically clear, durable, and low-toxicity formula.

Fluorodish is available in a range of sizes and coatings to ensure the right dish for your application
Three dimensions of Fluorodish are available – one 50mm style, and two 35mm style. All sizes and styles are individually packaged and gamma sterilized.

35mm dish
The 35mm dish has outside dimensions similar to Corning 35 dishes and can be used in most heater and perfusion adapters designed for the Corning dish. The 35mm Fluorodish with a 23.5mm glass bottom is available with a clear wall and uncoated, poly-D-lysine coated, or collagen coated glass insert. The 10mm glass bottom is uncoated, clear wall, and has a low sidewall for easy microelectrode access angle and low solution volume. The access angle is among the lowest of all 35mm dishes on the market and is very close to that of a 50mm dish. Using expensive drugs or chemicals? Choose this dish for its low solution volume – only 100~200 mL will cover the bottom well.

50mm dish
The 50mm dish features a large 35mm diameter growth area, a low access angle for microelectrodes, and grips for easy handling.

A question of coating...
Certain types of cell lines (e.g., PC3 and HEK) adhere well to the uncoated glass bottom dish. The poly-D-lysine coating has been reported to improve adhesion of neuron cells, and the type I rat tail collagen has been reported to improve adhesion of muscle cells. Prefer to do it yourself? All uncoated dishes can be coated with your choice of special coating suitable for your cell line.

Mini Cover Slips
These cover slips made of German glass can be used for growing and culturing cells that normally have poor adhesion to plastic surfaces. They are small enough to be placed in the micro plate or other cell culture devices. The 5 mm size will fit inside the 96 well culture plate and leave enough room to pick it up from the bottom of the well with forceps. The 8 mm size fits inside the 24 well plates.
