Temperature Probes
for biological and laboratory applications
When making precise temperature measurements is an issue, WPI can provide you with a very accurate monitor and thermocouple microprobes. WPI monitors have both resolution and accuracy of 0.1°C in the 0-50°C range and are traceable to NIST standards, whereas, other competitive electronic thermometers have an accuracy that is usually to 0.5°C or worse. Furthermore, all our type T clinical probes are guaranteed accurate to 0.1°C, due to our stringent wire standards. These are five times more accurate than competitive probes made with regular “Special Limits” wire.
Because temperature is a fundamental parameter which affects all biological and chemical activity, WPI products find applications in a wide array of technical situations, including the following:
Flexible, teflon microprobes are used for implantation in tissue, in spectrophotometer cuvettes, rectally in neonatal mice, in water baths, PCR thermal cyclers, etc.
Animal rectal temperatures during surgical procedures and pyrogen testing.
Skin temperature measurement during exercise physiology studies.
Needle Microprobes
Fast-response needle probes for instant readings in tissue, semisolids, liquids. Also for very small specimens, powders and materials. Needle tip is sealed to ensure only stainless steel contacts specimen. Maximum temperature 200°C. 5-ft Iead. Smallest microprobes give fastest reading. Short probes are easier to insert and last longer. Type #’s indicate needle gauge and needle length in cm.

Sizes Available (ga/cm.): (Style A)
MT-29/1, MT-29/2, MT-29/3, MT-29/5,
MT-26/2, MT-26/4, MT-26/6, MT-23/3,
MT-23/5, MT-23/8

MT-4 — Similar to MT-29/1 but has blunt tip. Good for instant skin and surface temperatures, liquids. Time constant 0.025 sec. Not isolated. All above probes are non-isolated. (Style A)

MT-D — Fast response surface probe for locating inflamation, arteries, etc. Also for dental use. Stainless steel. 5-ft lead. Maximum temperature 200°C. Time constant 0.025 sec. Not Isolated. (Style C)

MT-29/1B — Insect Probe — Similar to KMT-29/1 but sensor is welded into tip for maximum heat transfer. Designed for high accuracy on extremely small specimens such as insects, seeds, etc. Max.imum insertion depth 1/8”. Time constant 0.015 sec. 5-ft Iead. Maximum temperature 1500°C. Not Isolated. (Style B)

Flexible Implantable Microprobes
Implantable in semi-solids and tissue with needle (supplied). Also for immersion in various solutions and rectal temperatures of small animals. Totally sheathed in chemical resistant Teflon. Quite rugged. Maximum temperature 150°C. Isolated. Type # designates needle gauge. (Or one gauge smaller in thin wall).

IT-14 — 0.050” dia, 0.3s time constant, 3-ft lead length. (Style D)

IT-18 — 0.025” dia, 0.1s time constant, 3-ft lead length. (Style D)

IT-18MRI — IT-18 with 30-ft cable for MRI applications (Style D)

IT-21 — 0.016” dia, 0.08s time constant, l-ft lead length. (Style D)

IT-23 — For ultra fast measurements and for use on micro-size specimens. Sensor lead only 0.009” dia. Tissue implantable with 239a. needle (supplied). Rather fragile. Maximum temperature 150°C. Time constant 0.005 sec. 3-ft Iead. Teflon coated. Isolated. (Style E)

IT-1E — As IT-18 but sensor bead exposed. Combines the ultra-fast response of IT-23 with the Teflon sheath strength of IT-18. Time constant 0.005 sec. Isolated. (Style F)

Rectal Probes
RET-2
— Rectal probe for rats. For fast intermittent measurements. Smooth ball tip. Stainless steel shaft - 1-in. long, 0.59-in. dia., tip dia. 0.125 in. 5-ft Iead. Maximum temperature 1250°C. Time constant 0.8 sec. Not Isolated. (Style G)

RET-3 — Rectal probe for mice, etc. As RET-2, with shaft 3/4-in. long. 0.028-in. dia. Tip diameter 0.063-in. Time constant 0.5 sec. Not Isolated. (Style G)

General Purpose
HT-1
— “Workhorse” probe for liquids, gases, semi-solids. Plastic handle with straight stainless steel shaft. Not good for surface temps. Maximum temperature 4000°C. Time constant 0.5 sec. 5 ft. Iead. Not Isolated.

HT-2 — Like HT-1 but with 9-in. shaft. (Style H)

BT-1 — For surface temperatures of solids, also for liquids, gases and semisolids. Probably our best general purpose probe. Welded stainless steel shaft, plastic handle. Tip is 0.02-in. diameter bent at right angle to probe to facilitate accurate surface measurement. 5-ft Iead. Immersible. Maximum tip temperature 240°C. Time constant 0.15 sec. Not Isolated. (Style I)

PROBES MAY BE STERILIZED BY GAS (ETO) OR CIDEX
