Voltage Clamp Technique

EVC4000 employs the voltage clamp technique to monitor membrane permeability as a function of membrane voltage or applied chemicals. When combined with WPI’s patented EKC and EKV cartridge electrodes, EVC4000 can efficiently voltage or current clamp up to four sample membranes simultaneously using safe moderate voltages on the current wire leads.

Safe, low-voltage system

The superior design of the cartridge electrodes makes 100-volt current excursion unnecessary, so this safe, low-voltage system is easier to adjust and use. Extremely stable and accurate, each module, with its companion preamplifier, can operate independently in one of three different modes: Voltage Clamp (VC), Current Clamp (CC), or Open Circuit Potential (PD) measurement.

Control

EVC4000 can be controlled from the front panel of the instrument or from computer generated commands applied at the rear panel of the instrument. A feature unique to EVC4000 is an electronic potentiostat in the preamplifier box that maintains the serosal electrode invariant potential at zero relative to system ground. The preamplifier apparatus actively maintains one surface of the test membrane close to ground potential under all operating conditions.

Compound Microscopes

Used for higher magnification applications on very small objects from 1 mm to 5 um. These microscopes can reach magnifications from 40X up to 1000X.

Inverted Microscopes

Used in applications such as low to medium magnifications (50X to 200X) such as in patch clamping and large cell injections where the object is in a small liquid bath with circulation and the illumination comes from above the sample. WPI offers two styles of inverted microscopes, one with a movable stage and the other a fixed stage. Both styles have phase contrast image enhancement options for viewing the details of transparent cells.

Stereo Microscopes

Used in lower magnification applications on larger objects up to 50X. Typical usage in small animal desktop surgery and viewing macro objects up to a few centimeters in size.

Surgical Microscopes

Used in animal surgery in a stand up configuration. Typically these use very high definition optics at a lower magnification

Cameras

WPI offers a variety of microscope camera options for image recording, measurement and analysis. The selection of the camera may be mounted on a trinocular (a third optical port specifically designed for camera mounts) or may replace an microscope ocular. To compare the three digital cameras for microscopes, see the Camera Comparison Chart.

Light Sources

Used to illuminate the subject under stereo microscopes and other applications where an external light source is required.

Microscopy Accessories

Accessories for microscopy include spare objectives, eyepieces, C-mount attachments, lamps.
