WPI is taking
strides forward, bringing together an offering of the latest research tools for
muscle physiology studies. To the long-time standard Myobath system, WPI now
adds a biaxial tester and the line of Scientific Instruments-Heidelberg
equipment.
Biaxial Tester
The BioTester5000, a biaxial testing device,
offers a complete system for testing tiny biological specimens and analyzing the
test results. Skin, ligaments, blood
vessels, heart valves, sclera, membranes, scaffolds - BioTester 5000 can test
any planar biological or replacement tissue. This system has a uniquely designed
"BioRake" system that makes it easy to mount tiny samples. The unique tungsten
BioRakes easily pierce the toughest and most delicate soft tissue samples and
provide distributed attachment sites across the geometry of the sample for
uniform attachment and deformation across the edge of the sample. The sharp
rakes will not damage fragile samples.
SI-H Line of Products
In addition
to a complete line of force transducers, mounting clips and accessories, SI-H
equipment includes complete systems for a Simple Muscle Bath, Basic Muscle
testing, Advanced Muscle research, Long-Term Incubation studies, Fibermic
testing and an ATPase Muscle System. These systems are of modular design, making
it easy to custom build a system that can be modified in the future as research
needs change.
The Standard SI-H Muscle Research System performs
mechanical and optical measurements on intact muscles, and the Basic Research
System provides a low-cost system for mechanical measurements on intact
muscles.
Combining the versatility of the KG transducers and a solid
platform for mechanical studies, the SI-H Muscle Tester (Basic Research System)
can be equipped with a linear motor and laser diode for running advanced muscle
studies. It features:
- A small footprint and economical setup
- Data recording and analysis
- Controlled heating from 30-42C, and optional cooling
to 5C
- Modular design for flexibility in upgrading
- Expandable with a stimulator and tetanizer for intact muscle stimulation, or a laser diode
for sarcomere spacing studies in contracting
muscles
The Standard Muscle
Research System for intact living muscle preparations includes all the
functionality of the Muscle Tester and is equipped for optical measures, too. In
addition it can be outfitted with photometers, a laser diode and a linear motor.
It features:
- Data recording and analysis
- Modular design for flexibility for upgrading
- Add a linear motor for muscle length perturbation
studies
- Add a stimulator and tetanizer for intact muscle
stimulation
- Add a photometer for intracellular calcium
studies
- Add a cuvette system for intact muscle rapid cooling
contractures
- Add a temperature jump system for skinned muscle
fibers
- Add a gradient maker for calcium studies
- Add a laser diode for sarcomere spacing studies in
contracting muscles
- Add a laser-controlled perfusion system for
highly-accurate, low-force measurements
